Studying in Lübeck

Lübeck between tradition and modernity

Lübeck with its fascinating old city island is located in the metropolitan region of Hamburg at the Lübecker Bucht. Lübeck is a Hanse city and an important center of science and education.

Young people from all over the world apply for the around 10,000 places at the colleges and universities in Lübeck. Science and industry are working closely together, developing Lübeck into a leading location for medical engineering and informatics in medicine.

Lübeck is a multifacettet small city. Lübeck's theaters are famous for their excellent productions. The orchestra of the ”Universität zu Lübeck”, the University Choir, the Big Band and the Popsymphonics have been an inherent part of the music culture of Schleswig-Holstein for many years. Concerts and other events are staged all over the year and will be announced by poster or flyers.

The current schedule of events is available in the universities event calendar.

Several trails invite to extensive walks, jogging or cycling in and around the city. The “Krähenteich” (small lake close to the city center) is a popular place to meet friends, have a barbecue or just to relax on the green. The beach in Travemünde is beautiful during summer- and wintertime. You can get there for free by train or bus by using your students ID card. For outdoor activities you can join the “Frischluftgruppe Lübeck” to find some company. University sports are closely cooperating with sports clubs in town and offer a variety of courses.

There are a lot of programs which make it easier for you to get in touch with other students. Especially for exchange students there is the International group of Regulars (Internationaler Stammtisch) every Thursday at 08.30 pm at Cole Street

Lübeck Social Community and Campus Friends may have some tips for non-German speaking students.

A lot of nice bars, which offer live music or other events, can be found in Lübeck, for example the Sternschnuppe, the Finnegan –Irish Pub or the Blauer Engel, which is owned by a group of medicine students. Popular places for dancing are HüxParkhaus or A1. Recommendable are also “FH-Party”, “Mensa-Party”, “Erstie-Party” and “Werkhof-Party”. Pay attention to posters and flyers in the “Mensa”.
