It is crucial these days to build up interdisciplinary networks, since national and international funding agencies focus on joint research strategies.

The most highly recognised agencies in basic research are DFG (the German Research Foundation), BMBF (the Federal Ministry of Education & Research), and the 7th Framework Programme for Research (FP7) of the European Union.

BMBF and EU place great emphasis on translating research into practice, and thus welcome integration of industrial partners into international networks. Therefore, funds from industrial partners play a major role for our joint research strategiy, whereby such partners are very well represented by Lübeck's research profile.
