Master’s Degree

Master of Science in Media Informatics

During the four-semester master’s programme, we focus on science-centric learning for a career in research and teaching. We supplement this with complex projects on professional development of products to create the best conditions for a career in the business world.

As in the bachelor’s programme, you can take compulsory courses and electives each semester in the fields of informatics, media informatics, psychology and other interdisciplinary fields.

Knowledge gained and skills acquired – Upon Graduation

As a graduate, you will be able to get a job in media informatics in the industry or science and will be qualified to continue towards a doctorate. You will possess the following qualifications and expertise:

  • You can apply the principles of media informatics in diverse contexts, and assess their potential and limits in such situations.
  • You can present media informatics techniques, methods and concepts, independent of their actual form, transfer them to new developments and contexts and accordingly apply them.
  • You are able to deploy formal methods in concrete designs, development and for testing interactive multimedia systems, as well as in an independent abstract context.
  • You can assess the relevance to diverse application fields of media informatics techniques, methods and theories known to you, and can especially state or determine their limits and potential. Furthermore, you are able to design new models and concepts and thereby contribute to the advancement of media informatics.
  • You are aware of several current fields of research and can present and arrange the basic issues and primary outcomes involved.
  • You delve into the possibilities and risks in deploying IT technologies, form your own opinions and can represent them discursively.
  • You possess comprehensive knowledge of psychological principles and modes of operation in the context of media and computer systems.

Our graduates also possess the following range of relevant, interdisciplinary qualifications and expertise:

  • You are capable of formulating, analysing, structuring and formalising incomplete, contradictory and complex problems, including those from new fields, finding solutions for them and evaluating them.
  • You can combine your knowledge to define novel issues and resolve them.
  • You have worked in an interdisciplinary manner. Hence, you can exchange ideas with colleagues from other disciplines on issues outside of media informatics and identify possible contributions of informatics to such issues.
  • You can work scientifically and are particularly able to structure your own work along scientific lines to meet the highest demands for the integrity of your work. You can point out the ethical aspects involved here and assess their relevance to your tasks.
  • You act ethically in both your scientific approach to work and for development tasks.
  • You have gained initial experience in leading teams and projects, whereby you are able to state and apply methods to solve problems in teams and in projects.
