FAQs

On this page you will find answers to frequently asked questions about the Master's programme Entrepreneurship in Digital Technologies (EdT) in Lübeck.

Is a degree in EdT still a degree in computer science?

Yes!

Even if the name is different, this is a full-fledged computer science degree, with entrepreneurship/economics as a minor subject.

What does entrepreneurship mean?

The term entrepreneurship is used for all kinds of entrepreneurial activities and includes entrepreneurship as well as entrepreneurial action.

Nowadays, entrepreneurship refers not only to the founding of a company and the founder, but also to the entrepreneurial thinking and acting within a company. The goal is always to generate added value in the company, so entrepreneurship can be seen as a process of value creation in the company. Market opportunities must be identified and exploited, existing structures questioned and new (innovative) products/services developed, whether for a newly founded or an established company.

Entrepreneurship also includes another term that needs to be distinguished: Intrapreneurship. This term refers to entrepreneurially thinking and acting employees within established companies or public institutions (intrapreneurs). These employees — although dependent employees — should therefore behave within a company as if they were entrepreneurs themselves.

Is it worth studying EdT, even if you don't start a spin-off later?

In order to study the EdT programme, you do not yet need to aim for a spin-off. If you are interested in entrepreneurial thinking and acting, you can be taught appropriate specialist knowledge and skills during your studies.

In particular, learning to think and act entrepreneurially enables you to work like an entrepreneur in your own company, even if you are an employee. Those employees who work as if the company were their own are very valuable to a company and therefore highly sought after on the labour market.

I don't have an idea for a spin-off, why should I study EdT?

In order to study the EdT programme, you don't need to have an idea for a spin-off yet. If you would like to start your own business in the course of your future career or if you are simply interested in entrepreneurial thinking and acting, you can be taught the appropriate specialist knowledge and skills during your studies.

In particular, learning to think and act entrepreneurially enables you to work like an entrepreneur in your own company, even if you are an employee. This ability is more and more in demand on the labour market today.

To what extent does the EdT course help me with a spin-off?

The EdT course teaches you how to think through, evaluate and plan your (start-up) business in detail and teaches you the skills necessary for a company founder. In addition to business knowledge, which is indispensable for (spin-off) foundation, you will work on topics such as the preparation of a business plan, the development of innovations, the successful market launch and the value creation of the company.

Is there any further support for spin-offs on the Lübeck campus outside the EdT programme?

You can find support for setting up a company on campus in the GründerCube (www.gruendercube.de). This building is the central point of contact for the University of Lübeck and the Technical University of Lübeck for business start-ups and entrepreneurial thinking and acting.

Here you will find general information on the subject of setting up a company, assistance in drawing up a business plan and advice and coaching during the start-up phase. In addition, many qualifying events are offered outside the study programme.

Why would I study in Lübeck?

Studying at the University of Lübeck is a very personal study. Due to the small size of the university, there is a very personal relationship between the staff of the institutes and the students.
