Molecular Life Science

Molecular Life Science imparts molecular cell biology and structure biology as well as their application in medicine and biotechnology. During this course of studies the students have the possibility to get deeper into different subjects:

focus cell biology
focus structure biology
focus neurosciences

Courses for Exchange Students

Although the majority of the courses in the degree programmes are taught in German, there are a number of courses taught in English that are suitable for exchange students.

If you are interested in coming to Lübeck and participating in one of these courses, please contact our International Office.

Focus cell biology

In this subject area the students will get to know the basics as well as the treatment of infectious and viral diseases. Furthermore they will learn about innovative approaches in the field of tissue engineering such as autologous human tissue replacements.

Focus structure biology

In this subject area the students will investigate the three-dimensional structure of enzymes, enzyme-ligand-interactions and sugars on viral surfaces with different technologies such as NMR or crystallography. This information is the basic knowledge needed for development of new drugs and therapies.

Focus neurosciences

In this subject area the students will gain basic knowledge of neuroanatomy and neurogenetics to get a deeper understanding of genetic defects and their associated diseases as well as the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. In addition to this they learn about endocrine systems of the central nervous system and their interaction.

Career opportunities

As a graduate of MLS you will have a broad variety of professional opportunities. You are wanted as a research scientist at universities, at research institutes as well as in industry. Moreover, you will be able to fill a leading position of research and development departments or project management of companies in the field of diagnostics, pharmaceutical industry, cosmetics or biotechnology.

Bachelor and Master in Molecular Life Science

The courses of the bachelor and master degree programmes are generally taught in German. In particular, it is advantageous for applicants to have a good command of German. You find some information about the structure of both programmes below, but for more details please consult the German pages.

Courses of the MINT section (Computer Science, Medical Engineering Science and Molecular Life Science) taught in English

Although the majority of the courses in the degree programmes are taught in German, there are a number of courses taught in English that are suitable for exchange students.
