On 11 November 2010, various university committees and the Board of Trustees approved the articles of association for Lübeck Centre for Cultural Research (ZFKL), whose aim is to support and combine all related scientific activities in Lübeck. The university runs this centre in partnership with the City of Lübeck.
ZKFL members at the Universität zu Lübeck include the Institute for Medical History and Science Research (IMGWF), the Institute for Multimedia and Interactive Systemsand the Institute for Social Medicine.
From collaborating institutions in the city of Lübeck the Association of Museums (Lübecker Museen), the Archives of the City of Lübeck, the City Library, and the Archaeology and Landmark Agency of the city are the most important partners.
ZKFL is planned as a sustainable long-term initiative to embed research in the field of cultural studies in Lübeck, which will strive to use resources intelligently and attract innovative research projects as well as dedicated researchers to Lübeck.
Moreover, ZKFL’s charter is to strategically network all cultural facilities in Lübeck, develop a research programme and actively pursue its accomplishment.
ZKFL commenced operations by holding a research colloquium in the summer term of 2011. Initial activities are slated to start in the winter term of 2011/2012.
