  • Master Nutritional Medicine 2019 (Module part of a compulsory module), advanced curriculum, 2nd semester
Classes and lectures:
  • Animal models in Nutritional medicine (lecture, 2 SWS)
Workload:
  • 10 Hours exam preparation
  • 30 Hours in-classroom work
  • 40 Hours private studies
Contents of teaching:
  • Students will get to know the relevance of animal models in life science research.
  • They will be introduced into the basics of animal care and the animal law. Furthermore, students will get to know alternative approaches fo animal experiments.
  • Students will get to know the physiology of relevant animals in research (mouse, rat, fly worm, fish).
  • They will especially introduced into animal models for nutritional and metabolic research, immunological and infection research, cancer and inflammation research, aging and behavioral research as well as for neurological disorders.
  • In addition, students get insights into genetic models and the corresponding technologies such as knock out and transgenic approaches, CRISPR-Cas etc.).
Qualification-goals/Competencies:
  • Students will get knowledge about the animal law.
  • Students will get knowledge about alternatives to animal experiments.
  • They will develop advanced knowledge of species specific physiology and anatomy.
  • Students will develop advanced knowledge of genetic animal models.
  • They will develop profound knowledge of disease specific animal models used in Life science research.
