“Salt Peanuts” big band

Salt Peanuts Big Band

Named after the trumpet legend John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie’s standard of a fast tempo swing bebop, this big band of the Lübeck universities has been jamming for many years now. Its musicians are mostly students and alumni from the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences, the Universität zu Lübeck and the Lübeck Academy of Music.

This band has become an indispensable part of the Lübeck cultural scene and is considered one of the best big bands in Northern Germany. Its popularity keeps rising, marked by performances on major stages like the Duckstein Festival, the Travemünde Week, and the annual Christmas Concert. In fact, the band did its first German tour in the Summer of 2011.

The secret of its success under the direction of Jan-Christoph Mohr is that each piece is prepared painstakingly and performed on stage with unmistakable pleasure. The band expertly shifts between the most diverse styles – swing, Latin, and funk – with and without vocals. With such great diversity, one thing that always echoes in the hearts of the musicians is the band’s motto used as the title for the first CD – Havin' a good time.
