Lübeck University Choir

In honour of our choir’s silver anniversary in the summer semester of 2012, we held a special concert entitled, “Nox et Lux”. We have grown and now boast 70–90 singers each semester. Each week, students from the University, the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences and others attend our rehearsals every Tuesday from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Institute for Medical History and Science Research (IMGWF). We also have a weekend of rehearsals each semester, which is not just great for our rehearsals but also a wonderful shared experience. We transform our rehearsals into regular concerts at the end of a semester. The diversity of our programme spans entertaining pieces, a-capella, or with a range of accompanying instruments emanating African tones, jazz, or love songs from different genres. We supplement this with spiritual works like the Messe and Te deum by Steve Dobrogosz, and choir-symphonic pieces like Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, performed with the Lübeck University Orchestra. Joint concerts with other ensembles allow our choir to offer multifaceted performances. These include the highly fascinating repeat performance of Messe Solennelle by Louis Vierne across Germany, accompanied by the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra, and a rock & pop concert with crossover hits, film music and well-known musicals that was performed with the Lübeck Pop Symphonics.
