  • Master Infection Biology 2012 (Module part of a compulsory module), Interdisciplinary internships and consolidation courses, 3rd semester
Classes and lectures:
  • Animal experimentation: A comprehensive introduction into laboratory mice (seminar with practical exercises, 2 SWS)
Workload:
  • 60 Hours in-classroom work
  • 30 Hours private studies
Contents of teaching:
  • Commonly used mouse stains
  • Generation of knock-out mice
  • Selected mouse models of AIBD
  • Isolation of immunoglobulin
  • Practical work: Isolation and characterization of immune IgA
  • Practical work: Mouse handling, including injection techniques
  • Preparation of student presentations on mouse models of inflammatory skin diseases (Ibrahim, Ludwig)
Qualification-goals/Competencies:
  • They will obtain an overview of commonly used mouse strains
  • They will learn how to generate transgenic mice
  • They will learn (and perform) isolation of IgA from immune-serum
  • They will learn how to handle laboratory mice (with a focus on injection techniques)
  • They will obtain an overview of mouse models of inflammatory skin diseases
