Literary Colloquium in Lübeck

Seminar from the reading tour series »LiteraTour Nord« (Tour of Northern Literature) in the winter semester 2017/18

Within the scope of the Literary Colloquium in Lübeck, the Lübeck Centre for Cultural Studies will again hold a literary seminar in the winter semester 2017/18 on the »LiteraTour Nord« reading tour. Medical school students can take the literary colloquium as an elective subject.

Each winter from October to February, six writers of German contemporary literature go on tour to six different places to read from their new publications. The seminar delves into these current texts, which compete for the LiteraTour award.

The seminar addresses the principles of text analysis to gain insights into how the current literature scene functions. Students work together on the literature: from exploring the literary text (type of text, information on the author, content), to narrative analysis and classifying the texts within contemporary German literature. Moreover, the seminar looks at the context: how writers present themselves during the reading tour, how texts are reviewed by critics, and what criteria could be used for awarding literature prizes.

Seminar director: Dr. Birte Lipinski

The seminar is held each Monday after the lectures, from 6–7:30 pm in the Buddenbrookhaus (Mengstraße 4). Admission to readings is free for seminar participants.
