Prof. Christopher Baum Elected to the Executive Board of the German Association of Medical Faculties

Current important topics are digitisation and interprofessional collaboration

Prof. Dr. Christopher Baum, Vice President of Medicine at the University of Lübeck, has been elected to the Executive Board of the German Association of Medical Faculties. The German Association of Medical Faculties (MFT) is the umbrella organisation of Germany’s medical training and research institutions. They are responsible for the training of around 93,000 students in over 70 different study programmes in human and dental medicine and in the health sciences.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Frosch (Würzburg) was elected as new President of the MFT at the Members’ Meeting on 20 June 2019. He has been MFT Vice President since 2016 and as of July will succeed Prof. Dr. Heyo K. Kroemer, who will leave the Executive Board of the MFT ahead of schedule due to his new role as Chairman of the Charité University Hospital, Berlin. Prof. Kroemer and Prof. Baum were the keynote speakers at the 2019 Annual Reception of the University of Lübeck.

Medical studies master plan 2020

Current important topics for the MFT’s Executive Board are the implementation of the medical studies master plan 2020, the quality of the training year, and the new dental licensing regulation. “These matters will have a major impact on the work of the MFT Executive Board in the next few years. The MFT will work in a close and trustworthy manner with the Health and Science Ministries and other participating bodies in designing the master plan and the competence-oriented development of the medical studies programme,” stressed Prof. Matthias Frosch. “However, such content-related reforms can only be implemented if the financial and structural conditions for teaching and research at the university’s medical faculty are improved to the same degree.”

“I look forward to working together on these important tasks,” said Prof. Baum. “Particularly important to me are the deepening of the scientific foundations of the medical studies programme, proactive support in digitisation, the interprofessional collaboration between doctors and other medical professions, as well as the cooperation of the faculties and the university’s medical institutions regarding awareness of their role in the health system.”

Prof. Dr. Roland Frankenberger (Marburg) and Prof. Dr. Martina Kadmon (Augsburg) were also newly elected to the MFT’s Executive Board. Prof. Dr. Michael Gekle (Halle) and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Schüttler (Erlangen) were re-elected.
